VRNJACKA BANJA, as the biggest and the best known spa in Serbia with a variety of possibilities for medical treatment, is a traditionally attractive tourist resort and a center for recreation. It is situated in a central Serbia at a distance of 200 km south of Belgrade. Being located nearby the motor way and railway along the valley of the Zapadna Morava, which are connected with the major highways of the Balkans: Belgrade - Sophia and Belgrade - Athens, Vrnjacka Banja is well connected with all parts of "Serbia through main and local traffic network, as well as with its forested - mountainous hinterland that stands for a divine and well preserved countryside. This area encompasses high mountains as: Kopaonik (2017m), Željin (1785m), Stolovi (1376m) and Goc (1216m), which is considered an extremely pleasant mountain in the vicinity of Vrnjacka Banja. Mild continental climate and the influence of the nearby mountains add up special effect to the micro climate of Vrnjacka Banja, enhancing it with special pleasure. Warm summers with fresh mornings and early evenings, as well as snowy winters with mild frost, reach average temperatures of 10,5°C per year and average summer temperature o/20°C.

Vrnjacka Banja has a lasting tradition in medical treatment. It is exactly on this spot of hot mineral spring of Vrnjci that the Romans had built their center for medical treatment and rehabilitation AQUAE ORCINAE in the period between II and IV centuries. It is evident from archeological finds in the central part of the Roman Spa, namely the swimming pool, the Roman spring of mineral water (Fons Romanus) and a host of coins thrown in the spring as an expression of cult beliefs. Legionaries of Flavian's V Legion and Claudiaris VII Legion used to come to this spot to get treatment and to recover, as well as Romanies native tribes of aristocracy.

The oldest tourist organization on the Balkans, The founding Association for the Prosperity of Vrnjacka Banja, initiated modern development of this settlement in 1868. Nowadays Vrnjacka Banja is the biggest spa in Serbia and a well respected tourist center.

Vrnjacka Banja with its surroundings represents the richest and the most interesting tourist district in Serbia. First of all there are monasteries with monumental frescoes, some of which are under the protection of UNESCO as cultural inheritance to humanity. All the year around, and especially in the period of summer tourist season, visitors to Vrnjacka Banja are presented an exclusively rich, ample and varied cultural - entertaining program.
